Korea supports ASEAN in promoting its EV ecosystem by equipping its Secretariat with EVs through AKCF

Bekasi, 4 November 2024 – As part of AKCF supported project called "Strengthening the ASEAN Secretariat Operational Function with Clean Energy Technologies," the handover ceremony and EV roundtable discussion were held at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (HMMI). The project will deliver five Electronic Vehicles (EV) of Hyundai Ioniq 5 and build a charging station to the ASEAN Secretariat.

The event was attended by H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary General of ASEAN and H.E. Lee Jang-keun, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (ROK) to ASEAN. The event was also attended by other diplomatic representatives, representatives of ASEAN Centre of Energy (ACE), and Indonesia National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).

Ambassador Lee Jang-keun of Korea underscored, in his remarks at the ceremony, the Korean government's commitment to supporting the reinforcement of the ASEAN Secretariat and realizing the vision ASEAN leaders had laid out to develop the regional EV ecosystem at the leaders meeting in Jakarta last year.

Dr. Kao in his remarks commended the strong collaboration among ASEC, the ROK Mission to ASEAN and the ASEAN-Korea Programme Management Team (AKPMT) in bringing this project to fruition, which will enhance ASEC’s operational efficiency and allow ASEC to play a role in advancing the ASEAN leaders’ vision.

After the conclusion of the ceremony, the participants also attended a lively roundtable discussion with experts on the EV Ecosystem, followed by a tour of the Hyundai EV manufacturing plant in the afternoon.
