The National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT)

The National Institute of Green Technology (NIGT), formerly known as Green Technology Center (GTC), is one of the 25 government funded science and technology institutes in Korea. NIGT is established based upon the Article 32-2 (Affiliated Institute), Articles of Association, National Research Council of Science & Technology. The objectives of NIGT are to support establishment of R&D policies for Green Technology and to support global green technology cooperation. With a mission to respond to the climate crisis and contribute to green growth, NIGT serves as a think tank for inclusive and innovative global growth, providing support for the establishment of national green technology policies and global technology cooperation.

NIGT's priority areas include developing strategies for leading global climate technology and policy research. For the global climate technology cooperation, the institute research on a full-cycle model for climate technology development and deployment, as well as the transfer and diffusion of technology to developing countries. Through the policy research arm, the institute supports planning and implementation of technology policies and development and operation of technology integrated information system.

NIGT currently has 95 staff, including 63 members in the Division of Policy Research and 28 members in the Division of Planning and Coordination. The annual budget of NIGT is about USD 10 million, including the government contributions of around USD 6.8 million. Our funding comes from a combination of government grants and revenue from our projects.

NIGT has a long history of working with ASEAN countries since its establishment on various projects and programs, including but not limited to, Philippines sanitary landfill, Indonesia eco-friendly development, flare gas recovery, waste management, bio-product, waste to energy, wave energy, drone mapping, Vietnam greenhouse gas reduction, CCU technology transfer, ICT smart farm, desalination technology, etc. Our team has a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing these countries, and we are committed to working with them to promote sustainable development.
